Science Gone Mad: Originally founded as a world-class think tank for the research and development of defenses against social entropy caused by professional wrestling storylines, Science Gone Mad Research Laboratories lost 95% of their project funding and matieral support after a series of controversial studies and unfortunate mishaps. In early 2005, Will's celebrity birthday theorems were stolen by an as-yet-unidentified terrorist organization and used to create a pair of super-talented twins: one, a ruggedly handsome male movie lead and the other, an unparalleled pop-music diva; the twins simultaneously combusted during an internationally-televised award show, creating a psychic vortex that almost completely decimated the American people's obession with meaningless popular culture and led to an unprecedented awareness among the masses of the ultra-wealthy ruling-elite's activities, culminating in the results of the 2006 mid-term elections. Halliburton/KBR and several other energy contractors pulled their support for SGM after this incident. Later in the same year, Ron Beauregard's research on Jim Crockett Productions led to an expose of former World Tag Team Champion Ricky Morton's political imprisonment, influenced and possibly under the direct orders of former President Bill Clinton, severely damaged the presidential aspirations of Clinton's wife Hillary, the junior Senator from New York state. A number of progressive organizations, including Clinton's own Clinton Foundation, immediately discontinued their association with the Research Laboratories after the story broke. Several white-papers published based on research by Rev. Joshua resulted in lawsuits from McDonald's Corporation, MySpace.com, and the city of Morristown, Tennessee for defamation and libel, as well as class-action lawsuits filed on behalf of the nation's single-mothers, midgets, and the mentally-disabled. The resulting settlements temporarily bankrupted SGM in late 2006, but a fiscal crisis was averted when the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in The Sowth and the Suns of Cunfedrate Vetruns v. Sceince Gone Mad that a geographical relationship does not constitute a class for purposes of a lawsuit, the Confederacy did indeed fight for the right to own people as property, and that the South does not actually have any class to begin with. Also, as a result of this landmark case, SCOTUS would require that future cases be submitted printed in ink on legal paper, not written in crayon on a Hardee's Six-Dollar Burger wrapper. Also near the end of 2006, SGM's long-time working relationship with Southernfried Wrestling News, a regional Internet-based publisher of professional wrestling news and information as well as numerous flame wars, came to an end. Accusations of unauthorized access of sensitive data at Southernfried, as well as censoring related statements of Southernfried exectutives, were leveled against Ron Beauregard. At the same time, Nate's claims of extensive contributions of materials key to Southernfried's success were disputed by top Southernfried executives. The charges against Beauregard were inconclusive and dismissed by Rev. Joshua, claiming the issue was likely a misunderstanding resulting from the lax involvement of Southernfried executives in the day-to-day operations of the company during early, mid, and late 2005 and 2006. Nate's contributions to Southernfried were later verified as part of an attempted reconciliation on the part of Southernfried, but Nate declined, choosing to focus on strengthening SGM Research Laboratories, expanding the organizations research into various branches of popular culture. The circumstances surrounding this incident and the aftermath of SGM's break with Southernfried may leave the publisher unable to continue operations. -Source: Wikipedia (2007) |
